John Wick wins on action innovation — it changed how Hollywood stages action sequences and spawned a franchise that consistently delivers. The Equalizer wins on character and drama — Denzel Washington's McCall is a more complete human being than John Wick's grief-driven archetype. Both are excellent 2014 action films that deserve more recognition.
